Why horses? Horses are animals that live in the present moment at all times. Hypervigilant, the horse is aware of its environment and its safety. Horse use their intuition and behave in response to subtle behaviors of the herd. Horses also respond to the behaviors and emotions of the human. These observations can provide us with valuable information about ourselves, which can assist us with our therapeutic goals. The participant learns to pay attention to honest feelings and can generate this awareness to day to day living.
An Equine Assisted Psychotherapy session is co-facilitated using a team approach, composed of a licensed Mental Health Practitioner, Equine Specialist Practitioner, and horses, as partners of the team. Sessions are ground based (no riding is involved) and are a metaphorical, experiential, solution oriented approach to exploring your story through engagement and observations with the horses.
